FAQ's

What are the Champions of Home Awards?
In 2013, C.A.R. created the Champions of Home Awards to honor working California REALTORS® who have made an impact on the lives of their clients by consistently going above and beyond the usual practice of good business. Each year, this prestigious award will be presented to no more than three California REALTORS®  who've worked hard to find solutions to incredibly difficult situations and have impacted the lives of clients in an inspirational way.

Who is eligible for the award?
Members of C.A.R. in good standing who have completed a minimum of six (6) transactions within the past 24 months are eligible for nomination if they fit the following criteria:

  • Nominee’s actions demonstrate extraordinary compassion and care in service of their clients.
  • Nominee has gone to extraordinary lengths on behalf of their clients, above and beyond what is expected in the ethical conduct of good business.
  • Nominee’s actions and business practices raise the standards for other REALTORS® and serve as an inspiring example for their colleagues and others.
  • Nominee demonstrates leadership in ethics and exemplary business practices on an ongoing basis.
  • Nominee is highly respected by colleagues and clients alike.
  • Nominee’s reputation in general is unimpeachable.
  • Nominee has acted with the highest ethics and morals in conducting their real estate business.

How do I nominate someone?
Complete and submit a nomination package, which includes:

  • Nomination statement about why your nominee qualifies for the award
  • Three (3) specific and compelling stories about how the nominee has helped three distinct clients
  • Client Testimonial forms from each of the three clients described in the nominating statement
  • Consent form signed by the nominee
  • Contact information for all client, colleague and other professional references

Nominators can find forms and rules at http://on.car.org/cohawards.

Can someone be nominated again if they weren't selected last year?
Absolutely. As long as your candidate is an active member of C.A.R. and fits the criteria, he/she remains eligible to be nominated. You will need to submit a 2014 nomination form and follow current nominating procedures. You’ll also want to be sure to include at least three client stories that have occurred within the last 24 months.

Can I nominate myself?
No. You must be nominated by another person to be considered for the award.

Who can nominate?
Brokers, colleagues, local associations, and even clients may nominate a member of C.A.R.

Does the nominee have to do anything?
The nominee will need to provide references, verify some information about him/herself, and consent to a background check (see nominee consent form). Nominators will need to work with their nominees to gather this information and include it in the nomination package.  Finalists will be contacted by judges for a personal telephone interview as part of the selection process.

What is the Client Testimonial form?
This form will be sent by the nominator to clients, then collected to be included with the nomination package.  A Client Testimonial Form must be completed for each of the three stories described in the nominating statement.

When are nominations due?
Nominations must be received at C.A.R. by April 30, 2014. Only applicants with complete nomination packages will be considered nominees and move forward in the selection process.

What if I don’t have all the information regarding a nominee?
Nominations are not secret, so please feel free to work with the nominee to gather any information you’re missing.

How can I make my nomination stand out?
Be specific and be sure to include as much detail as possible.  Choose the most compelling and impressive examples of the nominee going above and beyond for their clients.  If there are more than three, you may include them, but bear in mind that the judges are looking for quality over quantity. Include stories and examples that demonstrate the nominee’s depth of commitment to clients and highest ethics. Show how the nominee has found solutions to incredibly difficult situations.  In addition to Client Testimonial forms, you may include letters of reference from clients, colleagues and other industry professionals, but be sure to provide contact information for verification purposes.

Where do I send my completed nomination form?
Mail the original plus two (2) copies of your complete nomination package to:

Champions of Home Awards
CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
525 S. Virgil Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90020

Can I apply online?
No. Nomination packages must be mailed.

What happens once you receive the nomination package?
Entries will first be reviewed for completeness. Only applicants with complete entry packages will be eligible to continue in the selection process.  Client references will be called during the first vetting period.  Professional references will be called only for selected finalists. Each finalist will be interviewed over the telephone by an awards judge.

How can I be sure that you received my nomination package?
Nominators and nominees will receive an email acknowledging receipt within five (5) business days of the time the nomination package arrives at C.A.R.  In the event of a discrepancy, we must be able to verify the postmark on your package.

How do I find out whether I’ve been selected as a finalist?
At each stage of the selection process, applicants will be notified whether or not they’re continuing to be considered.

How are the award recipient(s) selected?
A group of peers will serve as judges and select the award recipient(s). Judges will be part of the directorship of C.A.R. Judges will review entry packages confidentially, and determine the extent to which nominees meet the eligibility criteria. Judges’ decisions are final.

When can the recipient(s) expect to be notified?
Award recipient(s) will be notified prior to the formal announcement and award presentation in October 2014. Recipient(s) will agree to maintain confidentiality until the official C.A.R. announcement.

What does a Champions of Home award recipient receive?
Along with a physical award, a recipient will participate in a variety of public relations activities including, but not limited to, a video produced for the award ceremony, and an article and photographs for publication in California Real Estate magazine.

How many awards will be presented?
No more than three awards will be presented.
